Straight Answers
Separate the layout from the cleaning method. Drive-through and gantry describe equipment and vehicle movement; touchless and friction describe how cleaning is performed. Trailer washout and undercarriage washing address different areas of the vehicle. Compare the complete configuration against your fleet, site and operating requirements.
There is no universal trucks-per-hour figure. Request a configuration-specific analysis stating vehicle mix, cycle steps, preparation, spacing, staffing and operating conditions. Obtain separate written water-use, utility, service and warranty information rather than inferring them from a headline capacity.
A school district’s bus fleet is usually its largest capital asset outside the buildings themselves, and it is the only one that carries children on a public road twice a day with the district’s name on the side. Yet washing is often the least-planned part of transportation operations — handled with a pressure washer and whatever labor is available, on whatever schedule the weather permits.
For food-hauling carriers, a washout without documentation barely happened. Under FSMA’s Sanitary Transportation rule, the paper trail is the compliance — and the washes that understand this become vendors carriers can’t easily replace.
The part of the truck nobody sees is the part corrosion eats first. Frames, crossmembers, brake lines, connectors, fittings — all of it marinates in road salt, liquid de-icers, and mineral mud that a surface wash never touches. Undercarriage washing isn’t cosmetic; it’s component-life economics.
